BSBD expand repetoire with "dream-pop" gem Slow Burning Lights: the burgeoning young producer duo of Kingston and Young God, have embarked upon a new leg of their sonic journey with the indie-pop gem “Slow Burning Lights,” set for release on Novemeber 11th. Fans and critics alike got an initial taste of the duo’s versatility with early 2008’s fully instrumental release “Late Night Cinema.” “Late Night Cinema” has been hailed as an accomplished blend of live instrumentation, clever sampling, and inconspicuous ingenuity. The result is a sonic soundscape that clearly demonstrates the duo’s proclivities for genre-bending, as they claim influences from sources as eclectic as Ennio Morricone, Stars of the Lid, Brian Eno, Goblin, RZA, Mobb Deep, DJ Premier and more. With twinges of Folk, Funk, Electro, Boom Bap hip-hop and their own inimitable style of composition, “Late Night Cinema” set the stage for “Slow Burning Lights’” broodingly nuanced sensibility. After building a substantial resume producing for a wealth of indie hip-hop emcees, “Slow Burning Lights” now finds BSBD pairing with newcomer vocalist Yes Alexander to create a “dream pop” gem. Her sultry and ethereal vocals have been drawing parallels to the contemporary inflections of a Joanna Newsom, Shara Worden (My Brightest Diamond) and Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star). “Slow Burning Lights” is a beacon of sophistication in an overcrowded “indie pop” landscape, highlighting BSBD’s versatility and serving as the bedrock release for this newly formed group. As Kingston of BSBD himself states: “Crafting this album with a vocalist rather than an emcee was more of an open pallete like our instrumental music, rather than our hip hop stuff. It gives room for the music to branch off in any direction and breathe a lot more.” With a sensibility that hearkens back to the “shoegazer” stylings of The Jesus and Mary Chain and Mazzy Star and a formula recalling that of Garbage & others (accomplished producers teaming up with captivating frontwomen), the pairing of Yes Alexander with the virtuoso team of Blue Sky Black Death is sure to galvanize BSBD’s core fan base while further catalyzing the group’s expanding profile within the independent music community.
