Doves - Kingdom Of Rust (2009)

In Internet years, Doves' last effort Some Cities arrived some time in the late Mesozoic Era (2005). How many slapdash buzz bands have risen and fallen in those four years, hmm? The Mancunian trio took a long layover between albums as the members balanced band duties with adult responsiblities (drummer Andy Williams welcomed a new baby into his family last October). One of the long-gestating tracks is "Jetstream," a self-acknowledged stab at contributing to the Blade Runner soundtrack. Recorded at a converted farmhouse up in North West England, Kingdom of Rust primarily features production work from Dan Austin (Massive Attack), with two additional tracks helmed by industry vet John Leckie (XTC, Stone Roses, Radiohead's The Bends).~ Jeremy Goldmeier
