Chris Joss - Sticks (2009)

A tripped-out set from grooveman Chris Joss, a set with all the retro psychedelic elements you might expect from the cover, and from Joss' earlier work! As before, the style here draws heavily on hip 60s elements, old soundtracks, mod rhythms, soul jazz, and exotica, all laid together in a style that's got all the lean, warm appeal you'd expect to find in the originals, somehow crafted by Chris at a level that's a lot deeper than most of his other retro-styled contemporaries! There's some great use of sitar on some of the best tracks, making them feel like older Indian funk numbers at points and the rhythms are nice and warm, to really fit the spirit of the music.
