IAMX - Kingdom Of Welcome Addiction (2009)

So the time has come to re-decorate the Doc’s vivisection abattoir. I’ve started to exchange some dull and rusty scalpels for a set of shiny new ones. I've also exchanged my wooden dissection table for one forged of bright stainless steel. I've gotten some new clamps, and the piece I adore most, a bright shiny reflector. All just in time for the latest batch of reviews.

Shipped in a small package marked “Fragile, Live and Alluring” was the latest release from IAMX titled KINGDOM OF WELCOME ADDICTION set to be released on Metropolis Records on May 19th. A very shimmering and seductive album by former Sneaker Pimps frontman Chris Corner, I relished opening the package to lay the small undulating specimen on the bright metal table. Giving the small delicate creature a dose of ether, I cut away the black lace and vinyl exterior with the utmost care.

The cursory examination with the title track “Nature of Inviting” revealed an enticing piece of jangly synth combined with Intoxicating vocals. A pin up piece of cheesecake lyrical delight. Probing deeper with my stainless instrument KINGDOM OF WELCOME ADDICTION lulls you with florid butterfly soft vocal lilts moving to passionate crescendos. I am poised to ask if am really examining this piece. or is it really playing doctor with me? I blushed and thrust forward plunging deeper into my examination. “My secret friend” is an empirical track of heavenly delight as Chris Corner duets with the sultry voice of Imogen Heap merging two dulcet voices into one libidinous track.

“Think of England” is a poetic narrative combined with dreamy electronic riffs flying by at windy speeds. In stripping away the outer garments of this album, I reached the vinyl slinking beating heart. “The Great Shipwreck of Life” thumps and bumps with sleazy glam dance grooves and hypnotic vocal trips. Finally reaching the end of my “Y” incision, the album closes out with “Running”. A track of beautiful intimate lyrics with heart strumming licks.

Slowly dressing the stitches I gave this brilliant piece with delicate care, I placed it back into its package to recover from its intrusive violation. A brilliantly crafted album, Chris Corner brings out shadowy sensuality with IAMX that beckons like a familiar lover but builds with anticipatory drive. Any romantic would fall backwards head and shoulders to be kissed and teased with this albums provocative allure. And with it, I’ve broken in my tools for the next bout of beautiful tracks to share with you, the darkest fans of darkest music.
